We encourage smart energy use
Energy is essential to modern life – without it, society could not function. But, at the same time, all energy production impacts the environment. Our climate is changing – and it is our use of fossil fuels that is increasing the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere.
Man-made emissions of greenhouse gases affect the climate significantly. The UN climate panel estimates that the average global temperature could rise between 1.1 to 6.4 degrees over the next 100 years. We all need to reduce our overall energy consumption in order to reduce the greenhouse effect.
Our customers expect us to help them to use energy more efficiently. We will deliver services and products to help them use energy in a smarter way, and we will provide our customers with a more sustainable, flexible and reliable energy supply.
According to the EU's targets, energy use shall by reduced by 20 per cent through efficiency improvements by 2020. For Vattenfall, this means that we have to improve the energy efficiency in our power plants, distribution grids, district heating and – most importantly – to support our customers so that they can use energy more efficiently.
- We will offer information to educate our customers so that they may make smart energy choices, and to encourage energy efficient behavior. This includes giving customer advice on energy management, providing consulting services to industries, and promoting energy saving incentives.
- We will invest in modern technology, improved safety and better environmental performance in our power plants.
- We will install new technology in our transmission and distribution grids to lower the losses of electricity and to help locate problems more exactly.
