What is your study background?
I studied Industrial Engineering and Management at the University of Groningen.
Why did you apply to Vattenfall?
One of my friends works for Vattenfall, so I had already heard some positive stories about the traineeship before I applied. This in combination with my wish to work for a technology-related international company brought me to Vattenfall.
Why a traineeship instead of a junior position?
The traineeship gives me the opportunity to see different parts of the company in the first year. In this way you get a more comprehensive view about the challenges a company like Vattenfall faces. But perhaps even more important is that the traineeship gives you an 'informal' network all over the company.
What do you appreciate the most in your job?
The opportunities I get to think about energy related subjects; to see different parts of the business and to meet a lot of new people.
What challenges do you meet in your trainee position?
The traineeship comprises of one full year, in which you work for your home department, you do two assignments and you have six weeks of training. All together this results in a fragmented year in which it is really important to adapt quickly to new environments and situations. Sometimes it can be a challenge to make sure that in such a short period you really can deliver something valuable for the department.
What advice would you give to someone who is interested in applying for the trainee programme at Vattenfall?
Have a coffee at the office with one of the current or former trainees. They can explain to you what it is like to be a trainee at Vattenfall, and will also be able to give you tips for the application process.
