On 23 August, 22 000 amateur and professional cyclists will cross the starting line in Europe's largest bike race open to all. The 20th anniversary of the Vattenfall Cyclassics in and around Hamburg also marks the end of Vattenfall's sponsorship of the bike race.
As always participants can choose between three distances (55, 100 and 155 kilometres). The race passes through Hamburg and its metropolitan area. The 2015 edition of the Cyclassics sports some new features.
For the first time, the professional cyclists will set off in Kiel on Germany's only professional cycling race to start from a ferry. The non-professionals on the 100 and 155 km routes will be able to enjoy a view of the port twice. They will cross the Köhlbrand bridge on no fewer than two occasions this year.
The 20th edition of the Cyclassics also marks the end of Vattenfall's sponsorship of the event.
Pieter Wasmuth, Vattenfall's representative for Hamburg and northern Germany who has taken part in several Cyclassics, explains:
"The Vattenfall Cyclassics tells a really impressive story – from its beginnings as a small insider race to what is now Europe's biggest cycling race. We developed the Cyclassics about 20 years ago and have expanded it since and turned it into an outstanding event for the city. After two decades, it is now time to support something new."
