Peter Gango appointed new Head of Business Unit Nuclear Power

Peter Gango has been appointed as the new Head of Business Unit Nuclear Power. He will assume this position on 15 September. He comes to Vattenfall with extensive experience in nuclear engineering and power plant management both in Finland and abroad.

Business Unit Nuclear Power is responsible for all nuclear business within Vattenfall. It operates four nuclear power plants, with a total of nine reactors, located in Sweden and Germany: Ringhals, Forsmark, Krümmel and Brunsbüttel. It also includes companies such as SKB, KSU and Vattenfall Fuel. The Business Unit generated 41.5 TWh in 2009 (46 TWh in 2008) and has approximately 4,000 employees.

Peter Gango holds an MSc degree in nuclear and energy technology from Helsinki University of Technology, Technical Physics and has worked for the Finnish power and heat company Fortum (formerly Imatran Voima) since his graduation in 1993.

His previous duties were mostly related to nuclear engineering and power plant management both in Finland and abroad, his last two positions being Plant Manager of the Loviisa Nuclear Power plant (2008-2009) and Vice President of Fortum's nuclear and thermal power business (2009-2010). During his career, he has been involved in several WANO and IAEA activities and has generally gained extensive knowhow in nuclear power operations and related business.

Acting Head of BU Nuclear Power Mats Ladeborn will continue his work until 15 September, when Peter Gango starts his new position.
