Vattenfall launches world’s largest offshore wind farm

Vattenfall has completed the Thanet Offshore Wind Farm, off the south east coast of England, currently the largest offshore wind farm in the world. The official launch will take place Thursday 23 September.

With its 100 turbines, the Thanet Offshore Wind Farm has a combined energy capacity corresponding to the annual electricity needs of over 200,000 households. The electricity produced at Thanet substantially increases the generation of “green electricity” in the UK.

Vattenfall is one of the leading European energy companies and is working to minimize emissions of carbon dioxide from its power generation. The Thanet Offshore Wind Farm is a significant investment in renewable wind energy for the company.

Vattenfall’s President and CEO, Øystein Løseth, will perform the official opening ceremony at the wind farm on 23 September along with UK Secretary of State, Chris Huhne, and other dignitaries.

Media representatives are invited to attend the press conference and official opening, with the opportunity to see the wind farm at close proximity and to interview Vattenfall’s President and CEO, Øystein Løseth.
