Vattenfall divests thermal assets in the Netherlands

Vattenfall, through its subsidiary Nuon Energy, sells its thermal assets in Utrecht to Dutch energy firm Eneco. The sale is expected to be completed on 1 January, 2015.

According to the agreement, Eneco will acquire Nuons heat network and the Lage Weide and Merwedekanaal power plants in Utrecht.

The production sites generate heat for 50,000 households and 1,200 business customers.

As a result of the deal approximately 85 employees will be transferred from Nuon to Eneco.

Nuon and Eneco have agreed not to disclose the financial details of the transaction.

The deal is subject to approval by the competition authorities in the Netherlands.
